Sterling council to consider $50,000 grant for joint plan update
Sterling officials propose seeking state planning funds, with no local match, for a joint effort to update the city’s Master Plan and Logan County’s comprehensive plan.
The Sterling City Council is scheduled to consider a resolution Sept. 22 authorizing a $50,000 request for planning funds from the Colorado Department of Local Affairs. The item is listed for “discussion and possible action” on the meeting agenda.
The proposed Local Planning Capacity grant would not require a local match, city staff said. Sterling is eligible through its participation in Proposition 123, a statewide affordable-housing initiative.
The proposed resolution would support updating Sterling’s Master Plan, accept the grant terms and authorize the city manager or a designee to submit the application and execute related agreements. It would authorize seeking the funds but would not establish that the state has awarded the grant.
Sterling and Logan County each would contribute $50,000 in Local Planning Capacity funds to hire a consultant to update their respective comprehensive plans, according to the city council packet. The packet does not identify the consultant, project schedule or specific plan chapters to be reviewed.
The state’s Local Planning Capacity Grant Program supports local governments’ affordable-housing planning, development review and related land-use work.
The council had not decided the resolution as of Sept. 19. The proposal could be approved, amended, postponed or rejected at the scheduled meeting.
