La Junta received a state grant to upgrade its reverse-osmosis drinking-water plant, the city manager told the City Council on Oct. 5, saying the funding could total about $30 million over three years, according to the council minutes. The planned work targets per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), manganese and selenium.
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment lists La Junta as a January 2026 Tier 2 awardee. Tier 2 grants support infrastructure projects and can provide up to $30 million over as many as three years. The city manager described roughly $10 million a year for three years, but the final award amount and specific conditions are not established in the available information.
