Logan County commissioners discuss options for closed County Road 26 bridge

Logan County commissioners discussed whether to repair, replace or permanently remove the closed County Road 26 bridge, and whether to seek public input before choosing an option. The discussion took place at the Sept. 22 work session.
A participant described the bridge deck as being in better condition than its support pilings, which the participant said were splintering, with gaps visible through them. Repair ideas included replacing the supports and adding concrete end walls while keeping the deck. Further deck work and replacing the bridge were also discussed.
Participants said many drivers had found alternate routes and that trucks generally knew to avoid the bridge. They also discussed a trash truck crossing despite the bridge’s stated weight limit, and one complaint that the detour added about five minutes.
Commissioners floated 9:30 a.m. Oct. 20 for a public meeting about the bridge’s future; the work-session discussion did not establish whether it was formally scheduled.
