Logan commissioners to consider 22.6-acre Beet battery project Aug. 4

Logan County commissioners are scheduled to consider a special-use permit Aug. 4 for a proposed 22.6-acre battery-energy-storage facility that would connect to the existing Niyol Energy Center substation.
The agenda lists Resolution 2026-23 and Special Use Permit No. 243 for Beet Energy Storage LLC. The proposal includes energy-storage units, inverters, supervisory control and data acquisition equipment, Conex boxes and underground collection lines on land leased from the Susan W. Brown Revocable Trust in the southwest quarter of Section 34, Township 8 North, Range 50 West, according to the Logan County commissioners’ agenda.
The meeting is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Logan County Courthouse in Sterling. The agenda identifies the matter as a consideration of approval; it does not show that commissioners have approved, denied or postponed the project. The meeting had not occurred as of Aug. 1.
NextEra Energy Resources’ project description says the project could store up to 200 megawatts. The company estimates a $250 million investment, 300 construction jobs and $13 million in tax revenue over 30 years, contingent on required permits and approvals.
