Sterling approves proposed Holly Drive veterinary clinic; code change pending
The City Council approved a conditional-use request July 14 for Porsche Robison’s proposed clinic, but a related zoning amendment is scheduled for first reading July 28.
Sterling City Council unanimously approved July 14 a conditional-use request for Porsche Robison’s proposed small-animal veterinary clinic at 625 and 627 Holly Drive, the council’s proceedings record says. The approval was conditioned on related zoning-code text amendments and adding a definition for “small animals” if the term is not already defined.
The clinic remains a proposal, not an operating business. A July 20 Journal-Advocate report said the practice was expected in the coming months, but the public record reviewed does not provide an opening date or confirm that it has opened. The report described the proposed practice as occupying a former dental office in the 600 block of Holly Drive.
The related code changes have not been confirmed as adopted. The city’s July 28 council packet schedules first reading of Ordinance No. 8, Series of 2026, and recommends setting a public hearing and second reading for the next regular meeting. The packet does not show that first reading has occurred or that the ordinance has advanced beyond the scheduled action.
As drafted, the ordinance would make veterinary clinics and hospitals a conditional use in the Medical Services, or MS, zoning district. It would add a “C” for veterinary clinics and hospitals to the MS column of the permitted-use chart and require enclosed soundproof facilities, odor control and noise limited to 65 decibels at an adjacent property line. Those provisions remain proposed, not final code language.
Residents who spoke on the request supported it, citing demand for more timely local veterinary care. The zoning amendment is the next documented step in the approval process, and no firm opening schedule is available.
